At Glen Allen's Home Team Grill, a sports bar meets family style dining.
Home Team Grill is a fun sports-style restaurant and sports bar off of Nuckols Road in Glen Allen.
Tucked away in the Twin Hickory Shopping Center, this hidden gem is fun place to eat, drink, and watch sports. We call it "hidden" because if one were not particularly looking, it would be difficult to find and easily pass by on the road. One cannot even see the place when driving down the road. This tends to be case with many establishments, restaurant or not, that are located with shopping plaza. We had only found out about the restaurant because it was mentioned in an article we read.
The look (one section bar, one section sit-down restaurant, has large tvs everywhere) is of a traditional yet modern sports bar. Think - much smaller version Buffalo Wild Wings with more of a local flair.
The feel is of a small sports bar, yet although busy, the general sound of the sports on the tv along with the customers, was not overbearing. Walking into the restaurant, we felt quite comfortable and welcome. The same feelings lasted throughout our dining experience.
On the busy weekend evening we visited, we were greeted immediately by the friendly hostess (to be greeted right away at a restaurant seems to be a rarer experience as we visit places.) Equally nice was our friendly server who greeted us our table right away (also rarer) and was fun, attentive, and took good care of us during our dining experience.
The menu is what one would expect when attending a sports bar. Sandwiches, burgers, bar appetizers monopolize the sheet. However, there is also a good selection of soups and salads and steak and seafood dishes. Surprisingly, there are a few low calorie options for those who are watching their weight. At the end of menu is a small selection of desserts.
We tried The Eagle $8 (cheddar, Applewood bacon, lettuce and tomato on grilled sourdough bread) which exceeded our expectations. This play on the BLT looked good on the menu and was a delight to have for dinner. The sandwich like all others and wraps are accompanied by tasty kettle chips as the default side.
Our intent for dining that evening was to watch a major sporting event in a place we had never visited before. After our nice experience, we will be returning the next time we want to go out and watch a sporting event!
